The Lorin Farr Monument Restoration Project
• The Lorin Farr Monument in Ogden City's Municipal Gardens Memorial Plaza, may be the finest pioneer monument found in Weber County. It was erected and dedicated on August 14, 1947, as part of the Centennial Celebration of the pioneer's arrival in the valley.
• On November 15. l 997; honoring 50 years since its original dedication, The Winslow Farr Sr. Family Organization and its faithful members, funded refurbishment of Lorin's monument, as it had become sun bleached with its westward facing, and Lorin's image was almost missing from the stone. • In December 2023, representatives of The Winslow Farr Sr. Family Organization learned of a quiet and secretive effort to remove and destroy both the Lorin Farr and James Brown Monuments. Leaders of this effort claimed they, “were given permission by Ogden City to dismantle the two monuments". • Throughout 2024 members of the Farr Family met with representatives of The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial, Ogden City, Mark H. Bott Monument Company and Sons of the Utah Pioneers, Ogden Chapter, negotiating to preserve the two pioneer era monuments. Eventually the family prevailed in preserving both monuments, Lorin and James Brown, including an agreement by the fallen firefighter’s organization to bear the more than $80,000 cost to move the two monuments, all contingent upon the Farr family refurbishing virtually all of the Lorin Farr Monument and a small portion of the James Brown Monument. • Now, in 2025: 78 years since its original dedication, Lorin and his companion monument. Captain James Brown have both been moved from within the confines of The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial and relocated to a more prominent and superior location where they will never again need refurbishment with a new, eastward facing. • Refurbishment is estimated at $5,000. • This is a call to all members of The Winslow Farr Sr. Family Organization: We need donations so that Lorin Farr and James Brown can be refurbished and stand the test of time. Lorin's monument tells, among other things. of his relationship with and testimony of the prophet Joseph Smith. It is an endearing and enduring family legacy which can bless each of our family members. |
*WFO is a 50 l(c)(3) charitable organization, and all donations are tax deductible. All donations in excess of those necessary for the refurbishment of the Lorin Farr Statue will be placed with the general funds of WFO and used for its other approved purposes.
